Highlights include the sharks, the turtles, and the rainforest species. For penguin lovers, there is a colony of Gentoo Penguins - the third largest penguin species after Emperor and King Penguins!
Sea Life has helped to breed Gentoos, Humboldts and King Penguins in an effort to save them from extinction in the wild. Sea Life London's amazing Penguin Point aquarium is specially designed to match the conditions of the Gentoos' natural habitat and climate. Every last detail has been considered, even down to the lighting; in the spring from 5pm onwards the lights are turned down low and enter a sunset cycle of red light to mimic the Southern Hemisphere.
The enclosure has an underwater viewing window so you can properly observe the birds gliding through their watery world. It also features, uniquely, the Ice Adventure, designed in conjunction with the British Antarctic Survey to replicate the Gentoos' natural frozen landscape. The temperature is constantly monitored and maintained, and the air is filtered to rid the enclosure of airborne diseases.
In 2014, Sea Life London's first baby Gentoo Penguin was born! They named her Elsa. Little did that tiny bundle of fluff know how much she was helping the survival of her species!
Please note that public transport is the recommended way to reach Sea Life London.
